Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few months, you’ve probably heard someone waxing poetically about something called a Cake Pop. The first time I saw them was on my favorite daytime homemaking show about 2 years ago. Currently, there are literally hundreds of places to find them online along with pictures and creative decorations. But, what exactly is a Cake Pop and where can I find a Cake Pops Recipe?In its most basic form it is very simple. Bake a cake, use your fingers to crumble it into a bowl, add cream cheese or cream cheese frosting and then roll the concoction into ping pong sized balls. After cooling down in the freezer, drop the chilled balls into your favorite candy melts or dipping chocolate to add a coating. Poke a lollipop stick in the middle of every sphere and presto, you’ve just made your first batch of bliss on a stick.Cake Pops are wonderful because creating a cake from scratch isn’t required. Store bought mixes work just fine. However, if you’ve got the skills to do it from scratch, I’m sure it will only add bonus points to the compliments that you’ll receive. Any cake flavor will do, so go with your gut. My projects have used plain yellow, chocolate, and strawberry cake. I prefer to use chocolate because it seems to be more dense and I’ve noticed that it tends to hold together better while dipping. Depending on how big you roll your mix, you can get 40 or 50 treats out of each batch. (Your will power is a factor here as well, once you steal one, it’s hard to stop)I have tons of projects in mind. Every special event with family and friends brings requests for my pops. Loved ones are a great resource for themes and ideas. Anything that you see can become inspiration, including cartoon characters, books and toys.. There are endless opportunities for decorating and by using your creativity, anything that you imagine can be achieved..As a budding “cakepopologist” (someone who specializes in cake pop design), you will undoubtedly be the most popular person at your next party or event.
